The Introductory Prayers to Every Hour

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, One God. Amen.

Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Lord have mercy, Lord bless us. Amen.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and forever and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.

Having invoked the Holy Trinity, be still so that your thoughts may be freed from worldly cares. Make the sign of the cross and bow three times, each time saying the prayer of the publican: “O God, be merciful to me a sinner.”

We Praise Thank You, O Lord

O Lord, we praise you and we glorify You. O Lord, we bless You and trust in You. O Lord, we entreat and plead to You. O Lord, we submit ourselves to Your holy name and we serve You. O You, to Whom all knees bend and all tongues confess, we bow down to You. You are the God of gods, Lord of lords and King of kings. You are the creator of all, visible and invisible. As Your Holy Son taught us to pray in this manner, make us worthy to pray:

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, in Christ Jesus our Lord. For Thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

O My Lady Mary

O my lady Mary, with the salutation of Saint Gabriel the Angel, greetings to you. You are virgin in body and in conscience. Greetings to you, Mother of the God of hosts. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb. O full of grace, rejoice for God is with you. Pray and beseech your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, that He may forgive us our sins.

The Prayer of Thanksgiving

Let us give thanks to the beneficent and merciful God, the Father of our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ; for He has covered us, helped us, guarded us, preserved us, accepted us unto Himself, spared us, supported us, and brought us to this hour. Let us then ask Him, the Lord our God, the Almighty, to guard us in all peace this holy day and all the days of our lives.

O Master, Lord, God the Almighty, the Father of our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ, we thank You for everything, concerning everything, and in everything; for You have covered us, helped us, guarded us, preserved us, accepted us to Yourself, spared us, supported us, and brought us to this hour.

Therefore, we ask and entreat Your goodness, O Lover of Mankind, grant us to complete this holy day, and all the days of our lives, in all peace with Your fear. Take away from us, all your people, and from this holy place that is Yours, all envy, all temptation, all the work of Satan, the counsel of wicked men, and the rising up of enemies, hidden and manifest.

But provide for us those things which are good and profitable; for it is You Who have given us the authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and upon all the power of the enemy.

Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, by the grace, compassion and love of mankind of Your Only-begotten Son, our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ, through Whom the glory, the honor, the dominion, and the adoration are due unto You, with Him, and the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giver, Who is of one essence with You, now and at all times, and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.

The Penitent’s Prayer

Psalm 50 (51)

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You may be justified in Your words and blameless in Your judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, You delight in truth in the inward being, and You teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that You have broken rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will return to You. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise. For You will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; You will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

Do good to Zion in Your good pleasure; build up the walls of Jerusalem; then will You delight in right sacrifices, in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings; then bulls will be offered on Your altar. Alleluia.

The Ninth Hour (3 P.M)

This prayer commemorates the hour in which our Lord died in the flesh, and the thief on his right-hand side was accepted into Paradise.

We offer to Christ, our King and our God, the prayer of the ninth hour of this blessed day, beseeching Him to forgive us our sins.

From the Psalms of our father David, the prophet and the king, may his blessings be upon us all. Amen.

PSALM 95 (96)

O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless His name; tell of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come into His courts! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth!

Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity.”

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the LORD, for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in His faithfulness. Alleluia.

PSALM 96 (97)

The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Clouds and thick darkness are all around Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him and burns up His adversaries all around. His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the LORD, before the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens proclaim His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory. All worshipers of images are put to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols; worship Him, all you gods!

Zion hears and is glad, and the daughters of Judah rejoice, because of Your judgments, O LORD. For You, O LORD, are most high over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.

O you who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the lives of his saints; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous, and give thanks to His holy name! Alleluia.

PSALM 97 (98)

Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him. The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody! With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD!

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the LORD, for He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. Alleluia.

PSALM 98 (99)

The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! The LORD is great in Zion; He is exalted over all the peoples. Let them praise Your great and awesome name! Holy is He! The King in His might loves justice. You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt the LORD our God; worship at His footstool! Holy is He!

Moses and Aaron were among His priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon His name. They called to the LORD, and He answered them. In the pillar of the cloud He spoke to them; they kept His testimonies and the statute that He gave them.

O LORD our God, You answered them; You were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy! Alleluia.

PSALM 99 (100)

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!

Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name!

For the LORD is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. Alleluia.

PSALM 100 (101)

I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to You, O LORD, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will You come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.

Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure.

I will look with favor on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way that is blameless shall minister to me.

No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who utters lies shall continue before my eyes.

Morning by morning I will destroy all the wicked in the land, cutting off all the evildoers from the city of the LORD. Alleluia.

PSALM 109 (110)

The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

The LORD sends forth from Zion Your mighty scepter. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! Your people will offer themselves freely on the day of Your power, in holy garments; from the womb of the morning, the dew of Your youth will be Yours. The LORD has sworn and will not change His mind, “You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

The Lord is at Your right hand; He will shatter kings on the day of His wrath. He will execute judgment among the nations, filling them with corpses; He will shatter chiefs over the wide earth. He will drink from the brook by the way; therefore, He will lift up His head. Alleluia.

PSALM 110 (111)

Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation. Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them. Full of splendor and majesty is His work, and His righteousness endures forever. He has caused His wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever. He has shown His people the power of His works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations. The works of His hands are faithful and just; all His precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. He sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever. Holy and awesome is His name! The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Alleluia.

PSALM 111 (112)

Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in His commandments! His offspring will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; he is gracious, merciful, and righteous. It is well with the man who deals generously and lends; who conducts his affairs with justice. For the righteous will never be moved; he will be remembered forever. He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the LORD. His heart is steady; he will not be afraid, until he looks in triumph on his adversaries. He has distributed freely; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn is exalted in honor. The wicked man sees it and is angry; he gnashes his teeth and melts away; the desire of the wicked will perish! Alleluia.

PSALM 114 (116:1-9)

I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because He inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him as long as I live. The snares of death encompassed me; the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me; I suffered distress and anguish. Then I called on the name of the LORD: “O LORD, I pray, deliver my soul!”

Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is merciful. The LORD preserves the simple; when I was brought low, He saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living. Alleluia.

PSALM 115 (116:10-19)

I believed, even when I spoke: “I am greatly afflicted”; I said in my alarm, “All mankind are liars.”

What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. O LORD, I am Your servant; I am Your servant, the son of Your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all His people, in the courts of the house of the LORD, in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD! Alleluia.

Holy, Holy, Holy. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to our teacher Saint John. May his blessing be with us all. Amen.

The Holy Gospel According to Saint Luke (9:10-17)

On their return the apostles told Him all that they had done. And He took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida. When the crowds learned it, they followed Him, and He welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing. Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to Him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” For there were about five thousand men. And He said to His disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” And they did so, and had them all sit down. And taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.

Glory be to God forever. Amen.

May the saying of God be fulfilled in peace. We worship You, O Christ, with Your Good Father and the Holy Spirit, for You have come and saved us.

Absolution of the Ninth Hour

God, Father, the Father of our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ, Who saved us and delivered us from the bondage of the enemy, we ask You, in His blessed and great name, to turn our minds away from worldly cares and carnal lusts, to help us remember Your heavenly statutes. Reveal to us Your love for mankind, O Righteous One.

May You favorably accept our prayers at all times, and especially the prayer of this ninth hour. Grant us to live worthy of the calling with which we were called, so that when we depart from this world, we may be counted with the worshippers worthy of the passions of Your OnlyBegotten Son Jesus Christ, our Lord. May we gain mercy, forgiveness of our sins and salvation so that we may sing with the choir of saints who truly pleased You since the beginning and forever.

Lord, abolish for us the power of the adversary and all his evil armies, as Your Only-begotten Son has trampled on them by the power of His life-giving cross. Accept us, O our Lord, Jesus Christ, as You accepted the thief at Your right, while You were hung on the cross. Shine upon us as You have shone upon those who were in the darkness of Hades, and restore us all to the paradise of joy. For You, our Master, are blessed God, and unto You is due all the glory, honor, majesty, dominion, and worship, with Your good Father and the Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

The worshipper should pray the concluding prayer for every hour:

The Magnificat:

Saint Mary’s Hymn of Praise for Our Lord

(Luke 1:46-55)

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has looked on the humble estate of His servant.

For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. And His mercy is for those who fear Him from generation to generation.

He has shown strength with His arm; He has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; He has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty.

He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to His offspring forever.”

Hail to Saint Mary

Hail to you. We ask you, O Saint, full of glory, the ever virgin, the Mother of God (Theotokos), the Mother of Christ, lift up our prayers unto your beloved Son, that He may forgive us our sins.

Hail to the Holy Virgin, who bore for us the true Light, Christ our God. Ask the Lord on our behalf to have mercy on our souls, and forgive us our sins.

O Virgin Mary, the holy Mother of God, the trusted advocate of the human race, intercede on our behalf before Christ, Whom you bore, that He may grant us the forgiveness of our sins.

Hail to you, O Virgin, the right and true queen. Hail to the pride of our race, Emmanuel, Whom you bore for us.

We ask you, our trusted advocate, to remember us, before our Lord Jesus Christ, that He may forgive us our sins. Amen.

Introduction to the Creed

We exalt you, the Mother of the true Light. We glorify you, O Saint, the Mother of God, for you brought forth the Savior of the whole world Who came and saved our souls.

Glory to You, our Master, our King, Christ, the pride of the apostles, the crown of the martyrs, the joy of the righteous, the firmness of the churches, the forgiver of sins.

We proclaim the Holy Trinity in One Godhead. We worship Him. We glorify Him.

Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord bless. Amen.

The Orthodox Creed

We believe in one God, God the Father, the Pantocrato, Creator of heaven and earth, and all things, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Onlybegotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages, Light of Light, true God of true God; begotten not created; of one essence with the Father; by Whom all things were made.
Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, was incarnate of the of the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary and became man.
And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried. And on the third day He rose from the dead, according to the Scriptures
and ascended into the Heavens; He sits at the right hand of His Father, and He is coming again in His glory to judge the living and the dead , Whose kingdom shall have no end.

Yes, we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who, with the Father and the Son, is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke in the prophets.

And in one holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the remission of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the coming age. Amen.

Lord, hear us and have mercy on us and forgive us our sins. Amen.
Kyrie eleison. (

Holy, Holy, Holy

Holy, Holy, Holy. Lord of hosts (sabaoth). Heaven and earth are full of Your glory and honor. Have mercy on us, O God the Father, the Pantocrator, O Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, God of hosts, be with us. For we have no helper in our hardships and tribulations but You. O God, absolve, forgive, and remit our transgressions; those which we have committed willingly and those we have committed unwillingly; those which we have committed knowingly and those which we have committed unknowingly, the hidden and the manifest. O Lord, forgive us for the sake of Your Holy name which is called upon us.

Let it be according to Your mercy, O Lord, and not according to our sins. Amen

The First Absolution

O Lord, God of hosts, Who exists before all ages and abides forever, Who created the sun for daylight, and the night for rest for all men, we thank You for You have let us pass through the night in peace, O King of ages, and brought us to the daybreak. Therefore, we ask You, O our Master, the King of all ages, to let Your face shine upon us, and the light of Your divine knowledge enlighten us. Grant us, O our Master, to be sons of light and sons of day, to pass this day in righteousness, chastity and good conduct. Let us complete all the rest of the days of our life without offense through the grace, the compassion and the love of mankind of Your Only-begotten Son Jesus Christ, and the gift of Your Holy Spirit, now and at all times and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.

The Second Absolution

O God, Who causes the light to burst forth, Who lets His sun shine upon the righteous and the wicked, Who created the light which illuminates the whole world, enlighten our minds, our hearts and our understandings. O Master of all, grant us to please You this day. Protect us from all evil, from every sin and from adversity through Christ Jesus our Lord, with Whom You are blessed, and with the Holy Spirit, the Life-Giver Who is of one essence with You, now and at all times and unto the ages of all ages. Amen.

The Concluding Prayer for Every Hour

Have mercy on us, O God, and have mercy on us. You, Who at all times and in every hour, in heaven and on earth, are worshipped and glorified. Christ our God, the good, the long-suffering, abundant in mercy and great in compassion; Who loves the righteous and has mercy on sinners of whom I am chief; Who does not wish the death of the sinner but rather that he repents and lives, Who calls all to salvation for the promise of the blessings to come, have mercy on us.

Lord, receive from us our prayers in this hour and in every hour. Ease our life and guide us in fulfilling Your commandments. Sanctify our spirits. Cleanse our bodies. Guide our thoughts. Purify our intentions. Heal our diseases. Forgive our sins. Deliver us from every evil, grief and distress of the heart.

Surround us by Your holy angels, that, by their presence, we may be guarded and guided, and attain unity of faith and knowledge of Your incomprehensible and infinite glory. For You are blessed forever. Amen.
